When our communities need us, Mountaineers always step up to the plate. Whether we are on the ground helping with flood relief efforts or supporting outreach and academic programming, our faculty, staff, alumni and friends always go above and beyond.
Nowhere was that more evident than November 14, when more than 3,100 donors supported the 2018 WVU Day of Giving, raising more than $6 million dollars for West Virginia University – doubling last year’s efforts!
WVU Extension employees, friends and supporters were there front and center, offering their support for a number of programs and match challenges that will benefit our communities for years to come. And, for the vast majority of the day, WVU Extension held the leaderboard for the most gifts. I’m pretty proud of all of the people who offered their support to our organization.
Here are a few highlights of the gifts/money WVU Extension received thanks to the generosity of our Extension family and friends:
- More than $88,000 was raised yesterday for WVU Extension Service programming, including 4-H scholarships and programs, Women in Agriculture and others. That is nearly four times more than what we raised last year.
- WVU Extension sat atop of the leaderboard twice yesterday, winning the lunchtime and happy hour challenges, which earned us $5,000 for our greatest needs fund.
- Our first-time donors tripled compared to last year’s Day of Giving.
- There were four times the number of gifts made to WVU Extension compared to 2017.
